Man held a gunpoint following assault

Norwalk Reflector - 4/9/2017

April 09--WAKEMAN -- A man was held at gunpoint until Huron County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived Friday following a domestic violence incident.

Deputies responded Friday to a report of an active domestic violence incident inside of a vehicle of the roadway in the 3200 block of Fitchville River Road in Wakeman.

A concerned citizen heard a disturbance outside of their residence and observed a male, later identified as 28-year-old Justin Hale, of Willard, assaulting a female inside a vehicle, according to the report. The citizen went out to aid the female, who was actively being assaulted, and held Hale at gunpoint until deputies Polachek and Smith arrived on the scene.

Hale was taken into custody and is being held on felony domestic violence charges, according to the report. The victim sustained visible injuries and was treated at the scene and released.

"The citizen who intervened played an important role in minimizing the injuries to the victim by making the choice to step in and defend her," Deputy Brad Polachek said. "There was no physical altercation between Justin Hale and the citizen who stopped the assault.

"It's hard telling what the extent of the injuries Hale could have inflicted on the victim had he continued to assault her."
