Bonanza man sentenced to nearly two decades for assault of teen

Herald and News - 4/11/2017

A Bonanza man accused of repeated sexual assault of an underage victim has been sentenced to 19 years in prison after accepting a plea deal.

Timothy Daniel Donovan II, 34, pleaded guilty March 10 to two counts of first-degree sexual abuse and no contest to first-degree rape and attempted first-degree sodomy and was sentenced to 19 years in prison and 20 years of post-prison supervision minus time served.

Seven other felony sexual assault charges were dismissed as part of the plea. Donovan was otherwise scheduled for trial April 5 and faced a potential maximum of 140 years in prison.

He was arrested Feb. 10, 2016, for assaults against a female victim between 2008 and 2015 when the victim was between 11 and 17 years old. Court records said the victim was known to Donovan.

While incarcerated, Donovan may have no contact with the victim. He must also register as a sex offender.

Assault charge reduced

A Corvallis man arrested last year for molesting a teenage girl during a camping trip in Klamath County has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor harassment and been sentenced to a year of probation.

Arman Keegan Hastings, 20, admitted March 24 to forcing sexual contact on the victim, 15 at the time, and was sentenced 12 months of probation and ordered to undergo sex offender counseling.

Charges of first-degree sexual abuse and first-degree unlawful sexual penetration were dismissed as part of the plea. Hastings was scheduled for trial April 5 and faced a minimum of 100 months in prison.

He was arrested July 29, 2016, for an incident the day before at Aspen Point Campground at Lake of the Woods. The Klamath County Sheriff’s Office said Hastings dragged the victim by her hair into his tent, pinned her down and threatened to harm her if she said anything, then held his hand over her mouth and fondled her.

In addition to criminal charges, the victim has sued Hastings in Klamath County Circuit Court for $1.8 million claiming sexual battery. The suit was filed Feb. 1 through guardian ad litem Kristin Olson and, as of Monday, Hastings has yet to be served with notice of the suit.

Probation for spousal assault

A Klamath Falls woman accused of attacking her husband during a dispute over custody of their children has been sentenced to three years of probation after accepting a plea deal.

Denise Louise Henline, 43, pleaded guilty April 3 to fourth-degree assault and was sentenced to 30 days in jail and 36 months of probation. Charges of unlawful use of a weapon and attempted second-degree assault were dismissed as part of the plea.

Henline was arrested Aug. 26, 2016, for assaulting her husband, 39, at their residence on the 2300 block of Applegate Avenue. Henline told police the fight started because she believed her husband was taking their children, ages 10 and 8 at the time.

Police said Hendline punched and kicked her husband in front of their children then attacked the victim with a kitchen knife, causing minor injuries. During the attack the children fled the residence and Henline allegedly placed the 10-year-old in a headlock to drag the child to her car.

While on probation, Henline may have no contact with her husband or children without approval of authorities and must complete domestic violence counseling.

Probation for purse robbery

A Klamath Falls woman accused of stealing another woman’s purse by force last year has been sentenced to a year of probation after being found guilty of misdemeanor assault.

Mobie Lee Kirk, 31, was convicted March 29 of fourth-degree assault and sentenced to 10 days in jail and 12 months of probation. A charge of third-degree robbery was dismissed and could have carried up to five years in prison.

Kirk was arrested Oct. 10, 2016, following an incident the day before on the 800 block of Oak Avenue. The victim, 55, said Kirk punched her in the head and took her purse to retrieve cash inside.

The victim suffered a laceration on her forehead and was treated and released at Sky Lakes Medical Center.

While on probation, Kirk may consume no intoxicants and may not frequent places where intoxicants are sold. She must also complete anger management and substance abuse counseling and must attend a victim impact panel.
