Nonprofit to host seminar on domestic violence

April 17--NAOMI Inc., a nonprofit treatment facility, is hosting a domestic violence awareness event during its 7th Annual Health Awareness Symposium at 11 a.m.April 29, at Friendship Baptist Church, 5301 Nebraska Ave.

The free symposium aims to raise awareness about domestic violence and provide an opportunity for area organizations that work in the field to discuss and share best practices. For more information, call 419-304-2733.

UTMC named leader in LGBT treatment

The University of Toledo Medical Center was named a 2017 Leader in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation for its "equitable and inclusive treatment of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender patients." The index tracked things such as hospital nondiscrimination policies for patient visitation or employment, and staff training on LGBTQ care.

"We want all of our patients at The University of Toledo Medical Center to be in an environment that is welcoming and supports the overall healing and recovery process," Dan Barbee, chief executive officer, said in a statement. "To achieve this, we believe that patients, their families and loved ones need to be in a non-judgmental setting that promotes acceptance and allows a person to feel safe and protected to be their true self."

The former Medical College of Ohio hospital was the only one in northwest Ohio to be named to the list and one of 19 in the state.

Vision Associates joins Toledo Clinic

Vision Associates, a practice of 12 ophthalmologists and optometrists across northwest Ohio, will join the Toledo Clinic.

The practice offers doctors with a variety of sub-specialties who can perform exams and surgical procedures. Vision Associates will continue to see patients at its four locations in Toledo, Bowling Green, Defiance, and Fostoria.
