BRIEF: Marin coroner arrives for arraignment on molestation charges

May 08--The head of the Marin County coroner's office has been brought to the courthouse this morning for his arraignment on child molestation charges.

Darrell Alan Harris, 46, was booked into Marin County Jail at 6 a.m. after being transported from the Humboldt County Jail. He was arrested in Eureka on Thursday and is being held in lieu of $750,000 bail.

Harris is charged with four felony counts of child molestation over a period of seven years. The district attorney's office alleges that the crimes occurred before the girl was 14 years old and continued until she was 17.

A fifth count, a misdemeanor charge of sexual battery, involves the same alleged victim after she turned 18.

"I can only share with you that everyone, and I mean everyone, who knows him, is in absolute shock," said his defense attorney, Douglas Horngrad. "Nobody believes it, from law enforcement to neighbors."
