Man jailed on child molestation charges

Greensburg Daily News - 5/10/2017

May 10--GREENSBURG -- A Greensburg man was arrested Thursday on the suspicion that he molested three children under the age of 14.

Gary M. Keihn, 39, 500 block of W. Washington St., was arrested following an investigation into claims by two children that he had touched them inappropriately, and forced them to touch him.

According to court documents, Keihn was charged with three counts of child molestation. The first count related to incidents that investigators believe occurred between January and April 2017, involving a child under the age of 14, Child A. The crime is classified as a Level 1 felony. The second count also involves Child A and occurred during the same time period. The charge is a Level 4 felony.

The third charge relates to events that took place April 20 and involves a second child under the age of 14, Child B. This charge is also a Level 4 felony.

The first charge alleges that Keihn "performed an act of sexual conduct" with Child A. The second and third charges allege that Keihn "submitted to touching or fondling" with both children.

Decatur County Sheriff's Deputy Rob Goodfellow led the investigation, which began after the Sheriff's Department received a call from family members of Child B about a possible child molestation.

Child B described a series of four incidents of inappropriate conduct with Keihn that allegedly occurred April 20. The girl had informed her grandmother about the events the next day after school. Her parents were contacted and the family then reached out to authorities.

Child B informed police that she believed Keihn had also touched two other children inappropriately, according to court documents. Forensic interviews were conducted April 26 with Child A and Child B at the Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) in Dillsboro. Child C was interviewed April 21.

During the interview, Child B told investigators that Keihn entered her bedroom four times on the night of April 20. Throughout the incidents, the child said Keihn both touched her inappropriately and forced her to touch him. Child B also mentioned that she had spoken to Child A and Child C about Keihn's actions.

Child A spoke with CAC investigators the same day. During that interview, she said Keihn had "touched" her and "done some things" in five incidents that began when she was 8-years-old, with the most recent occurring two weeks previously.

Child A described incidents to investigators where Keihn allegedly touched her inappropriately and forced her to touch him. During one of the incidents, Child A said Keihn told her he also "did things" to Child C, though she denied it when asked by Child A and investigators. Child A also said she had spoken about Keihn's actions to family members and that Keihn told her not to tell anyone about it once.

Child C denied any wrongdoing by Keihn when interviewed by investigators, but did say that Child A had told her "Gary had touched her" when she was 7 or 8-years-old, and again about a month ago.

Keihn's initial court appearance was held via video conference from the Decatur County Jail Friday, according to court records. A plea of not guilty was entered and attorney Tyler Brant was appointed to the case by the court. A jury trial was set for 8:30 a.m.Aug. 30. Bond was set at $100,000 and no-contact orders were issued.
