Trinity man among 82 Lawrence indictments

June 23--MOULTON -- The suspect in a double homicide shooting in September has been indicted by a Lawrence County grand jury on two capital murder charges.

Earl Clayburn Coburn, 58, 14 Lawrence County 368, Trinity, is accused in the shooting deaths of Hubert White, 67, and his son Micah White, 32, both of Lawrence County 217, Hillsboro, on Sept. 9, 2016.

Coburn also was indicted of one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle and two counts of menacing. Coburn is Micah White's former father-in-law.

One of Coburn's attorneys, John A. McReynolds IV, of Russellville, said his client's arraignment, originally set for June 15, was continued until August.

At a preliminary hearing in circuit court Oct. 7, Lawrence County Sheriff's Sgt. Chris Waldrep said Coburn told investigators, "I wouldn't have killed that kid if he didn't make me."

Waldrep said Micah White, who was shot three times in the head, was found dead in his white Ford 350 crew cab pickup in the parking lot of New Antioch Church of Christ on Lawrence County 217.

Waldrep said Coburn later told investigators they could find the body of Hubert White in White's dining room, also fatally shot.

At the hearing, Waldrep said he understands a custody hearing Sept. 8 may have sparked the shootings. Micah White and his ex-wife, Amanda White Harville, have battled since a 2007 divorce over visitation rights of their daughter.
