Aug. 21 trial date set in girl's death

Examiner-Enterprise - 6/23/2017

June 23--A jury trial date has been set in the first-degree murder case against a Bartlesville man.

An Aug. 21 trial date has been set for 28-year-old Michael Andrew Nordbye in the 2015 first-degree murder and rape case that involved a 4-year-old girl.

Nordbye is being tried seperately from his girlfriend Courtney Le'ann Hansche, 27, who faces similar charges.

The charges of first-degree murder and child sexual abuse stem from the death of Hansche's 4-year-old daughter, Jaydenn Hansche. Nordbye;s trial is on the June 28 jury docket.

The case came to light Nov. 15, 2015, after the girl, who reportedly showed signs of physical and sexual abuse, was pronounced dead at the St. John's Owasso emergency room. According to the case's probable cause affidavit, deputies found the child had bruising and other marks on her body. Additionally, the attending ER physician said the child "displayed signs of sexual abuse."

Deputies learned the child had been with Nordbye the prior day, and his mother had reported that the child at that time appeared fine. Information showed Hansche and Nordbye were with the child later in the day, and said that the child was found "unresponsive and cold" at around 11:30 p.m. and that the girl had been "asleep" since 5:45 p.m.

Hansche reportedly told authorities that she and Nordbye "undressed the child, showered her with shampoo" and "re-dressed the child prior to taking her to the emergency room."

Information from the medical examiner's office reportedly showed the child "suffered at least 10 blows to the head resulting in severe blunt force trauma," and that it was "observed in the scalp and face."

The report also said "the most severe trauma was under the scalp and is associated with a brain bleed." There were reportedly recent "burn marks on the face and shoulder" and the "severity of the head trauma likely caused unconsciousness to the child."

Additionally, investigators said there was injury to the child's private area and that neither Nordbye or Hansche had "any explanation for the injuries" that caused the girl's death.

The investigation, according to the affidavit, showed Nordbye was a meth user and that he had "violent and physical outbursts while under the influence of methamphetamine" and presented "wild sexual requests to his sexual partners."

They were both arrested in December of that year, and remain in the Washington County Jail on $1 million bond each.
