Former youth soccer coach sent to prison for sexually assaulting young girl

A former youth soccer coach from Provo has been sentenced to prison time after taking a plea deal for sexually abusing a girl he coached.

Paul Von Strahl, 48, entered into a plea deal on April 18, pleading guilty to one third-degree felony of distributing a controlled substance and four class A misdemeanors of sexual battery.

He was originally charged with four first-degree felony charges of rape, one first-degree felony charge of object rape, one first-degree felony charge of forcible sodomy, one second-degree felony charge of forcible sexual abuse and one class A misdemeanor charge of sexual battery.

Von Strahl was sentenced to zero to five years in prison for the third-degree felony and a year in prison for each of the class A misdemeanors. The charges will run consecutively to each other.

Von Strahl will not receive credit for the months of time served in the Utah County Jail. He was also sentenced to pay a $9,000 fine.

According to police reports, on March 10, 2015, a 16-year-old female disclosed to a high school counselor that Von Strahl had inappropriately touched her chest over the clothing and told her it was wrestling.

Reports state the victim also was sexually assaulted by Von Strahl after multiple soccer practices at the Boys & Girls Club of Utah County.
