BRIEF: Domestic violence suspect prompts SWAT standoff in Rancho Peñasquitos

San Diego Union-Tribune - 7/4/2017

July 04--San Diego police surrounded a Rancho Peñasquitos home where a domestic violence suspect possibly armed with guns holed up for several hours Monday night.

Police kept trying to coax the man out of the house overnight.

A woman in Florida called police about 8 p.m. and reported that her sister was being threatened by her husband in the couple's home in Rancho Peñasquitos, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said. The caller told police her sister had locked herself in a bathroom.

Police also learned there may be two guns and three young children inside the home on Vervain Street, a cul-de-sac west of Salmon River Road.

Officers surrounded the home and summoned a SWAT team soon after.

At some point, the suspect's wife made it out of the house safely. It was unclear if the children remained inside.
