Richmond teen indicted on 79 sex crime charges

Richmond Register - 7/20/2017

July 19--A Madison grand jury on July 5 indicted a Richmond man on a total of 79 sex crime charges, including two counts of second-degree rape, two counts of second-degree sexual abuse and five counts of second-degree sodomy. He also was indicted on 32 counts of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor and 38 counts of use of a minor in a sexual performance.

According to the 11-page indictment, Kobe Graves-Hardin, 18, of Richmond, had sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl on two separate occasions, and engaged in oral sex with the same victim on five separate occasions.

The sexual abuse charges stem from two incidents of Graves-Hardin "slapping the naked buttocks" of the victim, according to the indictment.

Graves-Hardin also created and possessed videos of the victim, some showing the victim naked below the waist, some of her having intercourse, and some of her performing oral sex, according to the indictment.

The charges of second-degree rape and second-degree sodomy are Class C felonies, each punishable by five to 10 years in prison. Use of a minor in a sexual performance is a Class B felony, punishable by 10 to 20 years. Possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor is a Class D felony, and second-degree sexual abuse is a Class A misdemeanor.

Hardin-Graves has remained in the Madison County Detention Center since May 6.

Matthew Holden, 47, of Mt. Vernon, also was indicted July 5. A Madison Grand Jury returned indictments of one count first-degree burglary, convicted felon in possession of a handgun, public intoxication and first-degree persistent felony offender.

The indictment alleges that Holden unlawfully entered a home with the intent to commit a crime while armed with a deadly weapon. The persistent felony offender charge stems from Holden having been previously convicted of at least two felony offenses. The persistent felony offender charge in the first offense is a Class A felony, punishable by 20 years to life. First-degree burglary is a Class B felony, punishable by 10 to 20 years, and convicted felon in possession of a handgun is a Class C felony, punishable by five to 10 years.

Bail jumping indictments were returned against Melissa Potter, Kyle Clifford Andrews, Chester L. Rose, Jeffrey S. Clark and Cady Mauro.

Charges against Victor Byrd, Kalob Paul and Arron Mcarter were dismissed.

An indictment does not indicate guilt, only that grand jurors believe the state has enough evidence to prosecute. The grand jury also indicted five people for assault or wanton endangerment charges.
