BRIEF: Stilwell man pleads guilty to sexual abuse

Tahlequah Daily Press - 8/30/2017

Aug. 30--MUSKOGEE -- The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced Monday that a Stilwell man has pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a minor.

The indictment alleged that in Indian Country, from January to April, Steven Don Wallis, 30, engaged in sexual acts with a 12-year-old girl.

The charge, which is punishable by up to 15 years imprisonment and up to a $25,000 fine or both, arose from a probe by the Adair County Sheriff's Office, the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

U.S. Eastern District Court Judge Steven P. Shreder accepted the plea and ordered the completion of a pre-sentence investigation report. Assistant U.S. Attorney Edward Snow prosecuted the case.
