Man shot in 'domestic violence incident' at convenience store

The Commercial Dispatch - 9/3/2017

An apparent domestic dispute Friday night at a convenience store sent one victim to the hospital with gunshot wounds, according to Columbus police.

A suspect is in custody after the 8:30 p.m. shooting at King's Court Convenience Store, located at the corner of Main Street and 14th Avenue, city public information officer Joe Dillon said.

When officers arrived to the scene, they found and arrested a man holding a handgun, according to a CPD press release. Another man, who had been shot in the lower back, was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle with what Dillon called "non-life-threatening injuries."

Both the victim and suspect are males who are related, Dillon said, and police believe the shooting to be a "domestic violence incident."

CPD still has not released the suspect's name, but the press release said he is being held in Lowndes County Adult Detention Center awaiting charges.
