Farris, Roman plead not guilty on child abuse charges

Richmond Register - 9/9/2017

Sept. 09--Two Richmond women charged with more than a dozen counts of child abuse pleaded not guilty to the charges Thursday.

Britney M. Farris, 29, and Christabel M. Roman, 28, were indicted in August by a Madison County grand jury on the charges of abusing three children.

Their indictments allege they caused a 2-year-old child child to be burned with scalding water, used a stun gun on an 8-year-old child, beat all three children with a belt, forced the 8-year-old to do push-ups for an extended period of time, forced one child to hold another's legs while she was beaten with a belt, forced one child to fight with another in order to gain privileges, and kept the children confined in their rooms for long periods of time.

Farris and Roman also were indicted on two counts each of intimidating a participant in the legal process after allegedly telling the two older children to lie to police and social workers, and a charge of tampering with physical evidence for allegedly removing items that indicated drug use from a residence before police arrived.

The pair are scheduled for their next appearance in Madison Circuit Court on Sept. 21 at 1:30 p.m. for status hearings.

Both are still being held in the Madison County Detention Center, according to online jail records. The bond for each is $50,000.

A 74-year-old Berea man indicted in August on child pornography charges also pleaded not guilty Thursday.

Larry A. Miller, of Arrowhead Drive, was arrested in June after police say he was looking at children between the ages of 7 and 12 engaging in sexual acts with an animal on the library's computer. A juvenile was sitting at a table directly behind Miller and had a clear view of the screen, according to an arrest citation.

Miller will next appear in Madison Circuit CourtSept. 21 at 1:30 p.m.
