BRIEF: Man charged in alleged assault on girlfriend's adult son

Sept. 12--An Adams man who allegedly assaulted his girlfriend's adult son made his first appearance on Monday in Mower County District Court.

Nicholas William Bera, 36, was charged with felony domestic assault and felony domestic assault by strangulation.

According to the court report, a Mower County deputy responded to a domestic assault call at 10:12 p.m. on Saturday at a residence in the 200 block of Fifth Street Northwest in Adams.

Bera, who resides with his girlfriend and her son at the residence, was home when the son came back from work. The son told police that Bera started insulting him with profanity and slurs and then attacked him as he attempted to leave in a car with his mother. Bera attempted to strangle the son through an open car window and injured the son's pinky finger. The deputy oberved marks on the son's neck and injuries to his hand.

The son got free of Bera bystabbing him in the arm with a key

Bera has a prior conviction for gross misdemeanor domestic assault.

Bera is scheduled to appear in court again on Sept. 25.
