BRIEF: Middletown man convicted of sexually assaulting a minor

Patriot-News - 9/17/2017

Sept. 17--A Middletown man was convicted Friday on charges he sexually assaulted a minor when the victim was 14 years old.

A Dauphin County jury found Jason Harrington, 43, guilty of aggravated indecent assault, unlawful contact with a minor, indecent exposure, and corruption of minors.

During the two-day trial, the jury heard testimony of a 21-year-old man who detailed the sexual abuse that happened when he was 14.

Testimony also indicated that the victim has Asperger's syndrome, and the mental capacity of an 8-year-old.

"The testimony of the victim in this case was extremely compelling, at times even difficult to listen to, because his painful experience was evident in his raw emotions," said Chief Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Gettle in a news release. "This was not an easy case for the jury to consider and we credit their diligent efforts."

Harrington is scheduled to be sentenced before President Judge Richard A. Lewis in December pending the results of an evaluation to determine if Harrington is a sexually violent predator under Pennsylvania's Megan's Law.
