Ames man accused of domestic assault

Ames Tribune - 11/1/2017

Nov. 01--An Ames man was arrested after court documents show he allegedly punched and strangled a woman at his home.

Jorge Alberto Franco, 24, is charged with domestic assault, strangulation with injury and driving while barred.

According to court documents, officers responded to the Swift Stop at 3406 Lincoln Way around 4 p.m. Monday after reports of a woman screaming for police. Documents show that upon arrival, officers made contact with the woman, who stated Franco had repeatedly assaulted her at their home.

Court documents show the woman alleged Franco grabbed her by the throat and strangled her, resulting in her not being able to breath, and coming close to losing consciousness. The victim alleged in court documents that Franco punched her and bit her as well, and the officer observed bite marks and swelling on the victim's body.

Franco pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a halfway home last December after assaulting his mother, stepfather and another woman, and also driving two people off the road that September. Part of Franco's sentence was required completion of the Iowa Domestic Abuse Program.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Franco was being held in Story County Jail without bond.

Domestic assault, strangulation with injury, is a class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
