Gazette - 11/6/2017
Nov. 06--NORTH LIBERTY -- A North Liberty man is accused of sexually abusing a woman.
According to North Liberty police criminal complaints, the woman told police that at around 6 p.m. on Nov. 2, Majaliwa Kabandelwa, 31, forced himself upon her, despite her telling him that she did not want to have intercourse.
In another incident on Nov. 2, Kabandelwa is accused of assaulting a woman because she did not know how to turn on the headlights in a vehicle. The woman told police she was driving Kabandelwa to the post office when the incident took place.
Police said Kabandelwa grabbed the woman by the cheek, pulled her and then slapped her in the face. When the woman tried to get out of the vehicle so Kabandelwa could drive, he grabbed her by the hood of her sweatshirt and pulled her into the vehicle, causing her to fall, police said. Kabandelwa maintained his grip on the sweatshirt for about a minute, impairing the woman's breathing and causing her pain, police said.
Kabandelwa faces charges of third-degree sexual abuse, a felony, and domestic abuse impeding the flow of air, an aggravated misdemeanor. He remains in custody on a $27,500 cash or surety bond.
