Austin Daily Herald - 11/6/2017

Nov. 06--Corey Keith Kreutzbender, 29, of Austin was charged with felony domestic assault by strangulation and two counts of misdemeanor domestic assault on Friday in Mower County District Court.

According to the court complaint, Austin police officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at 8:43 p.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of Ninth Avenue Northwest. The officer's met with a woman and her father. The woman said Kreutzbender assaulted her because he was upset that she was drinking alcohol earlier in the evening.

The woman said she was in the kitchen when Kreutzbender got into her face in a threatening manner, according to the report. She pushed him away, after which he grabbed her by her hair, threw her to the floor and started strangling her.

She said she struggled to escape and was having trouble breathing. Kreutzbender released her and left the residence, at which point she left and went to see her father and told him Kreutzbender assaulted her. She then asked him to come back to the residence and he told her to call the police. When they got back, Kreutzbander was sitting in his vehicle in the garage and had disconnected the furnace and the cable TV box in the residence.

The report states that officers observed red injuries on her neck and right arm and a bruised bump over her left eye.

She told police Kreutzbender had been physical with her in the past, including breaking her ankle over the summer, but had never previously reported it to law enforcement.

The report further states that officers found Kreutzbender in the 900 block of Fifth Avenue Northeast. He told them he was upset she was drinking and that he disconnected the cable to "get back" at her. He claimed she had pushed him against a wall as he attempted to leave the house and denied knowing of her injuries.

In Minnesota, felony domestic assault by strangulation carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine.

Kreutzbender will appear in court again on Nov. 30.
