Fairmont man faces additional sexual-abuse charges

Times West Virginian - 11/9/2017

Nov. 09--FAIRMONT -- A new accuser has come forward against David Bartholow, who last week was charged with 20 crimes relating to the sexual assault of a 10-year-old.

On Nov. 1, Deputy Forsyth with the Marion County Sheriff's Department met with the mother of a victim who said that her 13-year-old child had said Bartholow, 23, of 1868 1/2 Owens Ave., Fairmont, had touched the child's genitalia multiple times.

The criminal complaint stated that the child said the abuse began between the age of 10 and 11 years old and happened more than once, but was unable to say exactly how many times.

The child said the alleged abuse occurred when Bartholow invited the child over to play video games, which is a similar circumstance to the first victim's account.

Bartholow faces two additional charges of sexual abuse by a person in a position of trust and two charges of first-degree sexual abuse.

Bond for these felony charges was set at $10,000, and Bartholow is currently being held at North Central Regional Jail on a $100,000 bond for the original 20 charges.

--A Fairmont woman has been charged with a felony after an alleged incident during an arrest following what would have otherwise been misdemeanors.

Slightly after midnight on Nov. 8, Officer Hudson with the Fairmont Police Department responded to a report of shoplifting at the Sheetz on Fairmont Avenue. After a male suspect was arrested on scene, officers were still inside the store and received a report from the manager that another shoplifting was in progress.

A white female was seen fleeing from the store in a black hoodie with merchandise in her bag.

After pulling the woman out of the gold Dodge Neon in the parking lot where she was hiding in the back seat, Hudson asked for her name, which she allegedly said was "Tiffany Brock."

Inside of her bag was two Dr. Peppers, a Red Bull, three Cowtail candies and a Hershey bar which valued a total of $9.80.

The woman allegedly also had a methamphetamine pipe, a syringe and a foil packet of methamphetamine on her person.

After checking DMV photos for Tiffany Brock, records for the address the woman provided, prior mugshots for the woman and fingerprints, the woman was determined to be Samantha McDaniel, 23, of 64 Gloria St., Fairmont.

McDaniel was charged with forgery of public record, which is a felony, and is subject to indictment for misdemeanors for the shoplifting and possession charges.

McDaniel is currently being held at North Central Regional Jail on a $5,000 bond.
