BRIEF: Ina man faces sexual assault charges

Jan. 31--MT. VERNON -- An Ina man was charged with multiple counts of sexual assault and abuse on Tuesday.

Anthony R. Williams, 58, of the 1900 block of North Tilton Lane, was arrested at 10:23 a.m. Tuesday by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. He is accused of having sexual contact with two underage girls.

The most serious charges against Williams are two counts of criminal sexual assault against a victim under 18 years old. Both counts are Class 1 felonies, which could result in four to 15 years in prison.

Williams was also charged with three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse against a victim under the age of 18; and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse against a victim under the age of 13, all Class 2 felonies.

Court documents say the alleged offenses took place in January of 2007 and then in August and October of 2016.

Williams' preliminary hearing is set for 1:30 p.m.Feb. 27 at the Jefferson County Courthouse.
