Thurston County Sex Offenders Register as Transient

Feb. 10--Two level 1 sex offenders have recently registered as transient in Thurston County, according to the Thurston County Sheriff's Office.

John W. Berney, 54, is required to register as a sex offender due to a 1991 conviction in Chelan County District Court of one count of communication with a minor for immoral purposes. He was sentenced to 365 days of confinement.

According to the sheriff's office, in that incident Berney was accused, at 27 years old, of requesting sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl.

Then in January 2009, Berney again pleaded guilty to one count of communication with a minor for immoral purposes in Walla Walla Superior Court.

He was sentenced to 365 days confinement with 202 days suspended. In that incident, Berney was accused, at 44 years old, of having sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl.

Berney is described as a white male standing 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 190 pounds. He has brown hair and green eyes.

Level 1 sex offender Kristopher Brown, 36, is required to register his address with the county due to a 2002 conviction in Marion County, Oregon for first-degree sexual abuse. Brown was sentenced to 16 to 18 months confinement and 45 months supervision.

At age 20, Brown was accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl.

Brown is described as an American Indian man standing 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 167 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.
