Tucson man sentenced to 59 years in rape, kidnapping of woman with baby
Arizona Daily Star - 2/12/2018
Feb. 12--A Tucson man who kidnapped and raped a woman at gunpoint while she was walking home with a baby stroller has been sentenced to 59 years in prison, court officials said Tuesday.
Abraham Antonio Garcia was found guilty by a jury in December to charges of kidnapping, sexual assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, sexual abuse and preventing use of a telephone in an emergency, Pima County Superior Court Records show.
Garcia will get credit for 710 days served, said Krisanne LoGalbo, a court spokeswoman.
Garcia's sentences on each count will run consecutively and include 10.5 years for kidnapping the woman he raped and 17 years for kidnapping her baby. He received 10.5 years for each of the two counts of sexual asault, 7.5 years for the aggravated assault and three years for sexual abuse, LoGalbo said.
Upon his release, Garcia will serve community supervision and must register as a sex offender.
On March 2, 2016, the victim was walking home with her baby, East Calle Arroyo Lindo and South Tucson Boulevard, when Garcia came up behind her with a handgun, forcing her into a nearby walking path and sexually assaulting her, according to Arizona Daily Star archives.
Garcia ran away after the assault, but the victim called police and provided them with a description of the suspect.
Garcia was arrested the next day, after fingerprint evidence recovered at the scene led police to him.
