Man allegedly strangles woman

Austin Daily Herald - 2/14/2018

Feb. 14--David Leon Bluhm, 53, of Austin was charged on Monday in Mower County District Court with felony domestic assault by strangulation and misdemeanor domestic assault.

According to the court complaint, police responded to a domestic disturbance call at 4:19 p.m. on Friday. An officer met with a woman at a residence in the 3700 block of 13th Street Northeast, where she had gone after Bluhm allegedly assaulted her at her residence in the 2100 block of Fourth Avenue Southeast.

She allegedly told Bluhm earlier she wanted him to leave the residence, which she said made him angry. She then told him she was leaving and called her adult daughter, at which point Bluhm allegedly squeezed her neck with both arms and pushed his thumbs into her larynx. Her daughter allegedly heard her scream and called the police.

The officer observed and photographed redness around her neck.

When officers found Bluhm at the Fourth Avenue residence, he told them he lost his temper and put his hands around her neck "for a couple of minutes," according to the complaint. After he was arrested, Bluhm allegedly told police, "I don't think I did anything wrong. Yes, I grabbed her by the throat, but I lost my temper."

Bluhm will appear in court again on Feb. 26.
