Nunda man facing felony charges in 'horrific' child abuse case

Livingston County News - 2/15/2018

A Nunda man is facing charges in what police are describing as "a horrific case of child abuse" involving the man's two-month old son.

Brock M. Hyde, 35, is facing charges of second-degree assault and reckless assault of a child, both class D felonies. The charges were handed down by a Livingston County Grand Jury last week.

According to police, Hyde assaulted his infant son who sustained a fractured skill, 11 broken ribs, retinal hemorrhages in both eyes, fluid and swelling of the brain and a broken bone in his foot.

Hyde's son is now in foster care.

According to New York'sDepartment of Corrections and Community Supervision, Hyde has a criminal history dating back to 2004 when he was convicted of third-degree burglary, a class D felony, and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, an E felony, and sentenced to between two and six years in state prison.

He served less than a year of his sentence and, in 2006, was convicted of second-degree robbery, a C felony, and second-degree assault, a D felony, and sentenced to between 4-1/4 and five years in state prison. He was paroled in 2010 after serving about four years.

Hyde was on parole on an attempted reckless endangerment conviction from 2012 at the time he allegedly assaulted his son.

The 35-year-old's arrest is the result of a joint investigation between the Nunda Police Department, New York State Police, the Livingston County District Attorney's Office, UR Medicine, the Bivona Child Advocacy Center, Livingston County Child Protective Services, and the Livingston County Crime Victim's Coordinator.

Rochester area media reported Hyde pleaded not guilty to his charges in Livingston County Court Tuesday morning. He was remanded to the Livingston County Jail on $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond by Judge Robert Wiggins.
