Bond review requested in sex abuse case

March 30--CLINTON -- A Clinton woman charged with four counts of sexual abuse is requesting her bond to be reviewed.

Defense Attorney John Kies this week filed a motion for bond review of Dorothea S. Varner, 26, 329 Sixth Ave. South, Apt. 215. The motion requests the court review her conditions of pre-trial release. Bond is currently set at $25,000 cash only. Varner is charged with four counts of third-degree sexual abuse, a class C felony. Bond review is set for 8:30 a.m.April 3. Arraignment is set for 8:30 a.m.April 12.

According to the affidavit, on Feb. 8, a 14-year-old female reported a sexual assault to her school counselor. The female reported Varner, a 26-year-old adult female, allegedly sexually assaulted her on Feb. 4 and Feb. 5. The juvenile female stated Varner came into her bedroom at night on those days and committed a sex act on the juvenile female.

The affidavit states on March 6 an officer conduced a recorded interview with Varner at the Clinton Police Department. Varner throughout the interview stated she knew the female was 14 years old. Varner allegedly admitted to having sexual contact with the juvenile female on two separate occasions. Varner stated she knew having sexual contact with the female was wrong because of the female's age.
