BRIEF: Ex-professor pleads guilty to child porn charges

Standard-Speaker - 6/14/2018

June 14--A former Bloomsburg University professor pleaded guilty Wednesday to possessing child pornography on his work computer.

Scott Lowe, 60, of Bloomsburg, entered an open guilty plea to four felony counts of sexual abuse of children relating to the possession of child pornography.

Attorney General Josh Shapiro said Lowe entered his pleas in Columbia County Court before Senior Judge David Grine.

In February, multiple child pornography photographs were found on Lowe's computer during an audit of university computers. The school referred the case to the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General and suspended Lowe. He subsequently retired.

Sentencing will occur at a later date, following a pre-sentence evaluation.

"This professor committed one of the lowest kinds of crime -- preying upon children -- by possessing child pornography," Shapiro said in a news release. "He used his university computer as a tool to assemble a cache of child pornography. No one is above the law and we're holding him accountable."
