CRIME REPORT: Police arrest man for allegedly sexually abusing minor

July 20--Berea police arrested a man on first-degree sexual abuse on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers were contacted by an individual and a child under 12 on July 8. The individual told police they caught Michael Valentour, 56, of Brown Street, Berea, twice engaged in inappropriate sexual activity while the child's back was turned. The individual told officers they would try to protect the child from being alone with Valentour, later adding they were deathly afraid of him, according to a citation.

Valentour was booked into the Madison County Detention Center, where he remained Thursday afternoon, according to online jail records.

----Richmond police arrested a man Wednesday after he shoplifted a Dewalt tool set from Lowe's.

When police arrived, loss prevention had already detained Billy Jones, 36, of McDaniel Drive, Richmond, according to a citation. Loss prevention told officers Jones took a Dewalt combo tool set, valued at $699, put it in a shopping cart, went to the lawn and garden center, passing all points of sale without trying to purchase the tool set, the citation continued.

Jones tried to flee with the merchandise into a parked van, but loss prevention contacted Jones before he was able to leave.

Jones told police he didn't want to talk about the theft, according to the citation.

Police searched Jones and found two capped unused syringes in a pocket.

Jones was taken to the MCDC and charged with theft by unlawful taking (more than $500, but less than $10,000). He was released from jail Thursday morning.

----Madison County deputies arrested a man for drunken driving, among other charges, after seeing him swerve and almost side-swipe another vehicle on Interstate 75 North Wednesday afternoon.

Howard Fryman, 62, of Lexington, is charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs/etc., possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, failure of owner to maintain required insurance and failure to produce insurance card.

As deputies were driving behind Fryman they noticed him in the far left lane. Fryman swerved into the middle lane, almost side-swiping another vehicle he was trying to pass, then swerved into the left lane before pulling over, the citation states.

As deputies approached the vehicle, they could immediately smell alcohol. Deputies saw multiple empty beer cans on the floorboard and asked Fryman to exit the vehicle, according to the citation. Deputy felt some of the beer cans, which were still cold and had condensation on them.

Fryman was given a field sobriety test, which he failed. He also couldn't provide police with proof of insurance.

As deputies searched the vehicle, they found several more open containers and a 12-pack of Budweiser.

Fryman was booked into the MCDC Wednesday afternoon, where he denied his right to call an attorney, but did ask to call his cousin. He was released in the evening, according to online jail records.

----Madison County deputies arrested a man on a warrant Wednesday for having a handgun, despite being a convicted felon.

On June 6, Shelby Noe, 32, of Green Crossing Road, Richmond, was in an accident and taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital because of his injuries, the Madison County warrant states. Richmond police responded to the accident, and Noe's vehicle was flipped over.

Police found a handgun in plain view once they flipped the vehicle back over.

Noe was booked into the MCDC and is charged with handgun possession by a convicted felon. He remained in jail Thursday afternoon, according to online jail records.
