Huron County grand jury indicts 14

July 24--A Willard woman accused of assaulting a first-responder is one of several defendants who have been indicted by a Huron County grand jury.

Courtney A. Martin, 27, of 202 Rae Court, Apt. 35, is charged with assault, a fourth-degree felony. Her indictment, which was released Monday, indicates the suspected March 31 incident involved a "peace officer" who was in the middle of an investigation, a firefighter or emergency medical worker.

The Willard Police Department handled the investigation.

The grand jury also indicted a pair of accused sex offenders, Elias B. Atkinson, 28, of North Columbus, and Robert J. Atkinson, 28, most recently of 5810 U.S. 20, Lot 131, Wakeman. A separate story about those cases is posted on this website.

"They are unrelated," said Huron County Prosecutor James Joel Sitterly, referring to the defendants' last names.

Other suspects who were indicted Friday are:

--Kimberly R. Dewiel, 30, of 25 Gallup Ave., Apt. I, on aggravated possession of drugs and two counts of possession of drugs, all in connection with a May 30 incident.

--Stephen D. Dunlap, 39, of 102 N. Pleasant St., on one count each of aggravated possession of drugs and obstructing official business, both in connection with an April 14 incident.

--Zachary T. Fox, 32, of 5150 U.S. 250, Apt. 2, on aggravated possession of drugs in connection with a June 22 incident.

--Matthew J. Gallagher, 42, of Spencer, on five counts of aggravated possession of drugs, all in connection with incidents from March 2 through 3. His indictment indicates if he is convicted, he could be required to forfeit $3,865.

Also, grand jurors determined there wasn't enough probable cause to indict Gallagher on obstructing official business.

--Anthony W. Guzan, 26, of 4711 Egypt Road, Willard, on one count each of grand theft (firearm) and breaking and entering. His breaking-and-entering charge carries a firearm specification on a Savage 17 HMR-caliber rifle with a scope. That means if Guzan is convicted, he would be required to spend one year in prison before any other sentence.

--Toni C. Harris, 41, of 92 Benedict Ave., on one count each of aggravated possession of drugs and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia, both in connection with an Aug. 3 incident.

--Anthony C. Lewis, 29, of 53 Spino Court, on three counts of aggravated possession of drugs, two charges of aggravated trafficking in drugs and one count each of possession of cocaine and trafficking in cocaine, all in connection with a Jan. 24 incident. His indictment indicates if he is convicted, he could be required to forfeit an Apple iPhone and $175 in cash.

--Ashley N. Miller, 40, of 66 S. Main St., Monroeville, on improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle in connection with an April 27 traffic stop. Her indictment indicates if she is convicted, she could be required to forfeit a Sig Sauer .22-caliber semi-automatic handgun.

--Theresa J. Tanks, 40, of Cleveland, on one count each of grand theft of a motor vehicle and petty theft, both in connection with a March 30 incident involving a 2004 Ford truck and property worth $640.

--Michael J. Rowen, 26, of 151 Benedict Ave., Apt. B, on one count each of aggravated possession of drugs, possession of heroin and operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI) of alcohol, a drug of abuse or a combination of them, all in connection with a May 18 incident.

--Matthew C. Stevens, 38, of 28 Washington St., Willard, on one count each of OVI and failure to submit to chemical tests.

Both of the charges are in connection with a Feb. 16 traffic stop. The indictment carries a specification that if Stevens is convicted, he could be required to forfeit a 2000 Buick Century sedan and another specification that he was convicted of similar, OVI misdemeanor cases in 1999, 2004, 2009, 2013 and 2016 through Norwalk Municipal Court.
