BRIEF: Teen sentenced to five years in prison for aggravated child molestation, incest

The Daily Citizen - 8/7/2018

Aug. 07--A Resaca teenager has pleaded guilty in cases in both Whitfield and Murray counties, including for aggravated child molestation and incest, and was sentenced to five years in prison without the possibility of parole and 15 years on probation.

According to the Whitfield clerk of court's office, Xander Kyle Morris, 18, pleaded guilty Monday in Superior Court to aggravated child molestation and incest in the Whitfield County case and sexual battery against a minor in the Murray County case. A charge of rape was dropped by the district attorney's office.

Morris was arrested in May by the Dalton Police Department after a Dalton Public Schools student told a school counselor she had been sexually abused by a male relative.

Judge Scott Minter handed down the sentence. Morris must also pay a $1,000 fine, perform 200 hours of community service, have no contact with the victim and abide by special conditions for a sex offender.
