BRIEF: Governor intends to pardon Fort Smith man

Times Record - 8/9/2018

Aug. 09--Gov. Asa Hutchinson plans to grant executive clemency to a Fort Smith man.

Hutchinson announced Monday he intends to grant clemency to James D. Jones of Fort Smith. Jones in 1999 was convicted of third-degree domestic battery and in 2003 convicted of felony second-degree domestic battery in Sebastian County, according to a news release from the governor's office.

"The notice is issued based on the dates of convictions, the fact that all terms of the applicant's sentence have been completed and there have been no further criminal-law violations. There are no law enforcement objections to the application," the release states.

Jones is one of 18 people convicted in Arkansas who Hutchinson on Monday announced intention for pardon.
