Bringing awareness: Shining a light on issue of domestic violence

The Woodward News - 9/26/2018

Sept. 26--October is Domestic Violence Awareness month and a busy month for the Northwest Domestic Crisis Services.

On Oct. 1, NWDCS will hold an event called "1 in 4" to bring domestic violence to light and how often is occurs in our community. The event will take place at the Woodward County Courthouse at 6 p.m.

"This is also an event for the community to show support for victims of domestic violence and we encourage everyone in the community to join us and show this community that we can come together and support one another," according to an NWDCS press release.

The organization is also encouraging the community to sport purple every Thursday in October to further promote awareness.

"This will bring awareness to the entire community on a weekly basis," NWDCS says. "By wearing purple we as a community are showing that we care about the victims of domestic violence and give our support."

In addition to "1 in 4" and wearing purple, NWDCS will host their annual fundraiser "Bites and Bling" on Oct. 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the Woodward Conference Center.

"This is an exciting opportunity for adults to come together (to) enjoy hors d'oeuvres, cocktails, and entertainments," NWDCS says. "The proceeds from this event will benefit the many victims and their children that the Northwest Domestic Crisis Services empowers."

For tickets to Bites and Bling stop by the Northwest Domestic Crisis Center located at 1024 22nd St. Tickets are $50 per person and are selling out quickly.
