Corbin couple indicted for alleged child abuse

Times-Tribune - 9/29/2018

Sept. 29--BARBOURVILLE -- A Corbin man who was arrested last month for allegedly abusing his 10-year-old child was indicted Friday by a Knox County grand jury.

Mark A. Golden, 47, was named in a two-count indictment for charges that allegedly occurred Aug. 26. His wife, Donna Golden, 52, was also named in the indictment for allegedly allowing the abuse to happen.

Count one of the indictment charges Mark Golden with first-degree criminal abuse.

Count two of the indictment charges Donna Golden with first-degree criminal abuse.

Earlier this month, Kentucky State Police Detective Jacob Wilson provided testimony to the court concerning the incident during Mark Golden's preliminary hearing in Knox County District Court, stating that he was dispatched to the Goldens' residence Aug. 28 to assist social workers following a complaint from officials at the child's school regarding marks found on his body.

According to Wilson, the child had multiple marks on his face and back, as well as bruises on his arms. A recorded interview was conducted between Wilson and Mark Golden, in which Wilson said that Mark Golden admitted to being the person who caused the child's injuries.

Mark Golden allegedly told Wilson that he disciplined the child with the use of a belt, his hands and sometimes a towel.

There had allegedly been multiple incidents that caused the child's injuries, with the most recent occurring two days before social services and police were contacted. There were also three other children in the home during the time the incidents took place. All four children were removed from the home by social services. Golden was placed under arrest and jailed in the Knox County Detention Center.

Mark Golden posted bail shortly after being arrested and remains out on bond. Donna Golden was taken into custody Friday following the indictment but has since posted bail and is currently out on bond.

First-degree criminal abuse of a child under the age of 12 is listed as a Class C felony, punishable by five to 10 years in prison.

An indictment is a formal charge by a grand jury; it is not a conviction or an admission of guilt.
