Centerstone receives Child Services Grant from Duke Energy Foundation

Rushville Republican - 1/31/2017

BLOOMINGTON ? Centerstone has been granted $4,900 from the Duke Energy Foundation to support its Child and Family Services programming. The gift, in addition to $1,400 given previously, will help fund nine mobile play therapy kits to be used in Brown, Lawrence and Monroe Counties in Indiana.

"We are so grateful to Duke Energy and the Duke Energy Foundation for providing us with the opportunity to better equip our community-based therapists in engaging children and families in our services," said Amanda Pardue, Regional Director of Child and Family Services. "Research shows again and again how beneficial play is in helping children heal from effects of trauma, which impacts the majority of the children and families we serve. These play therapy kits will give our therapists the tools necessary to help them deliver care that will change our youngest community members' and their families' lives."

The mobile play kits contain therapeutic books, games, toys, art materials and sensory items, allowing children to express their natural language and process trauma and emotions. The kits assist in easing children into healing and recovery, therefore making them an essential set of tools for members of Centerstone's Child and Family Services team. Centerstone aims to build one hundred mobile play therapy kits to be used over its 17-county service area in Indiana.

"At Duke Energy, we are dedicated to helping meet local community development needs," said Bruce Calloway, government and community relations manager for Duke Energy. "Our children are the future of our communities, and we are pleased to support a program that contributes to their advancement, especially for those who have been faced with adversity. We appreciate Centerstone's efforts as its team addresses this important issue in our state."
