TEMPLE ISRAEL AND JCC SUPPORTS FAMILY PROMISE WALK-IN DINNER PROGRAM

The Ridgewood News - 2/24/2017

Members of the tikkun olam committee of Temple Israel and Jewish Community Center (JFCC) of Ridgewood shared some love on Valentine's Day by preparing and serving a hearty meal to clients of the Bergen County Human Services Center in Hackensack. The dinner was part of the monthly Family Promise Walk-in Dinner Program that has served meals daily for 25 years; synagogue members rotate with those of other area houses of worship to provide dinner for the homeless community throughout the year.

Teens from TI-JCC's youth group also got involved by baking heart-shaped cookies for dessert. Committee members who served that day were (left to right) Leigh Brown of Ridgewood, Roselyn Altman of Hackensack, Ruth Susnick of Ridgewood, Irene Bressler of Fair Lawn, Elaine Silverstein of Glen Rock, Sue Coleman of Teaneck, Nadine Genet of Ridgewood, and Bruce Thaler of Glen Rock, as well as Les Birenbaum (in the kitchen), also of Glen Rock.

In addition to the walk-in dinner program, the committee sponsors community blood drives, collections of critically needed supplies and clothing for the less fortunate, programs to raise awareness of environmental and societal issues, and more.
