Self-care, parenting strong-willed children resources

Parents Place, 1570 E. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha, offers a variety of parenting-related classes and groups as part of its efforts to promote strong, healthy families through education. Triple P- Positive Parenting Program: An evidence-based program delivered individually to families who have behavioral concerns regarding their children. The individual approach provides an in depth look at why this behavior is happening, and how to manage and problem solve with key steps and strategies that will encourage healthy options. Call to make an appointment.

Strong-willed child: Identify feelings and emotions to teach kids essential life skills such as managing emotional outbursts, developing problem solving skills that help control behavior, and working cooperatively within family and group settings. From 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 1, 8, 15, 22.

Taking care of you - mind, body, spirit: Discuss the various dimensions of health (physical, mental, social and spiritual) and how they are interrelated. Activities will reinforce the importance of being mindful and intentional in daily lives for maximum health. From 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 9, 16, 23.

Social skills and self-esteem for children: This parent and child class aims to help children develop social skills and positive self-esteem through interactive activities. From 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays, May 10 and 24.

Ongoing groups

Foster parents meet from 6 to 7 p.m. the first Thursday of the month.

Playgroups for parents, grandparents and primary caregivers and children are offered from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays (Spanish speaking) and Wednesdays.

Parenting Through Life's Challenges: In this free, ongoing program, families support one another through TEACH: trust, empowerment, appreciation, communication and humor. Meets from 5:30 to 7 p.m. every second and fourth Thursday.

Reachability, Teachability: (Previously Parenting Children with and Through Challenges) Parents and children learn in separate groups the skills to build strengths, master weakness and embrace life with confidence. Meets from 6 to 7:30 p.m. every first and third Wednesday.

Single, stepparent support: Parent-led support group addresses the hardships that stepparents often face within their new blended families. Sessions focus on topics like goal-setting, problem-solving, communication and positive thinking in an effort to strengthen family bonds. 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. every second Wednesday.
