'Family Pew' service set at SUMC

The Midweek - 5/10/2017

On Mother's Day weekend all three services at Sycamore United Methodist will feature a heart-warming dramatic narration called "The Family Pew."

Woven between the fictional story of generations of a family that occupied that wooden bench will be favorite hymns that go along with the cycles of life -- births, deaths, weddings and more.

Jim McCue will present the dramatic narration. The Saturday, May 13, worship event starts at 5 p.m., and Sunday at 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. Child care is provided at the 10 a.m. service.

On the following weekend, the church invites the public to its first ever Big Band Service featuring Talk of the Town Swing Band. This celebration will take place at the 5 p.m. worship on Saturday, May 20, and at 10 a.m.May 21. The 8:30 a.m. service will be traditional worship.

Church member Nathan Ament plays saxophone in the swing band. Pastor Dan Swinson, who used this form of worship various times at his previous church, will be the featured singer. The 35-voice choir will sing a jazz version of "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" along with some of the instrumentalists in the band at the 10 a.m. service.

SUMC is at 160 Johnson Ave. in Sycamore. For information, call the church office at 815-895-9113, or visit www.sycamoreumc.org.
