Hickory Public Schools, Lenoir-Rhyne University share support of Mayor Wright, family

HICKORY ? The city's educational institutions are recognizing Mayor Rudy Wright for his support for and involvement with education at all levels.

Lenoir-Rhyne University President Fred Whitt released the following statement:

"On behalf of the Lenoir-Rhyne University community, Donna and I wish to extend our heartfelt condolences on the sudden passing of Mayor Rudy Wright.

"Mayor Wright was an avid supporter of Lenoir-Rhyne, and the entire LR Bear family joins me in extending our deepest sympathies to the Wright family and the Hickory community as we mourn his loss."

Beverly Snowden, director of communications for Hickory Public Schools, released the following statement:

"We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mayor Rudy Wright.

"Over the years, Mayor Wright has visited our schools, read to our younger children, served as a guest speaker with the middle and high school students, and he even proclaimed a special HPS Principals' Day ? honoring the principals of Hickory Public Schools.

"Mayor Wright loved being with the children of HPS, and the children loved his engaging smile and enthusiastic energy.

"We sincerely appreciate his service. Our deepest sympathy to the family of Mayor Rudy Wright."
