Sheppards donate to Winnemucca Family Support Center

The Humboldt Sun - 5/18/2017

Winnemucca's Family Support Center announced the receipt of another amazing donation to support the Center's mission to welcome and provide needed services to individuals and families who walk through its doors. Red and Elaine Sheppard donated $12,000.

"The Sheppard's generous donation will make it possible for us to serve clients who would otherwise have been without services; we simply cannot thank them enough," said Jennifer Hood, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Clinical Director for the Family Support Center.

Before the Family Support Center came into existence last year, individuals and families in need of substance abuse treatment and mental health counseling, parenting coaching and support and continuing support for a sober and drug-free life either had no options, or had to navigate through a difficult and sometimes confusing maze of service providers at wide-spread locations. The Family Support Center's goal has been to gather services and treatment providers under one roof and offer individuals and families the guidance they need to access help.

The Family Support Center's mission statement includes this philosophy: "We believe that everyone has the capacity to heal themselves if given the right tools and the appropriate level of support. We honor the natural strength and resilience that all children, individuals and families have and our primary goal is to help those we encounter realize their own greatness."

The Center, located at 35 West First Street in Winnemucca, Nevada is a non-profit organization focused on providing services including individual therapy, family therapy, play therapy, group treatment, substance abuse counseling, case management, parent coaching and parenting support, monitored visitations and a wide variety of other services.
