Updated: Mason City dad accused of abusing baby, leading to serious brain injury

MASON CITY | A Mason City man is accused of abusing his 5-month-old baby and causing a serious brain injury.

Jeremy Walter Rose, 27, was arrested Thursday night on a felony charge of child endangerment resulting in serious injury and transported to the Cerro Gordo County Jail.

Officers and medics responded to the 1700 block of South Coolidge Avenue at 9:39 p.m.June 22 on a report of an infant that was unresponsive and having difficulty breathing, according to a news release from the Mason City Police Department.

Doctors at the Mayo Clinic said the baby's injuries indicate abuse, the criminal complaint stated.

The Mason City Police, along with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Iowa Department of Human Services, investigated the incident.

The baby is still hospitalized, according to the police.
