Child advocate charged with abusing teen

Weatherford Democrat - 8/24/2017

Aug. 22--A member of the Weatherford Guardians of the Children chapter has been arrested following accusations he sexually abused a teenage girl he was entrusted to help after she faced previous abuse.

Roy Glenn Ward, 62, was arrested Aug. 16 on two charges of sexual assault of a child and a charge of indecency with a child by exposure.

According to the probable cause affidavit, a 16-year-old girl during a forensic interview at a children's advocacy center said Ward sexually assaulted her earlier this year when she was 15 years old and continued the abuse multiple times through June.

The two met through Ward's affiliation with the Guardians of the Children, a motorcycle club organized to support child victims of abuse.

In addition to the girl's interview, the girl's mother told the Democrat that the family also turned over other evidence showing Ward abused the girl.

To avoid identifying a child who has alleged sexual assault, the newspaper is not naming the mother.

The girl was sexually assaulted by two men in the past, according to the girl's mother. Both have been convicted, court records show.

During the difficult time after the girl's first outcry several years ago, the girl was introduced to Ward and other members of the Guardians of the Children, according to her mother.

Ward was called Cobra, according to the victim's mother.

"The defendant was eventually entrusted to transport the victim to and from various appointment," the probable cause affidavit states. "Additionally the victim was allowed to stay overnight with the defendant at his residence in Tarrant County, Texas."

Ward used alcohol and Xanax to control her daughter and allowed two other men to sexually assault the girl, as well, according to the victim's mother.

The girl's mother said she also alerted to the Parker County Sheriff's Office to an outcry by a second girl, though Ward does not appear to have been charged in that case.

"I do want this story to be known because I think if we can get this story out there maybe somebody will come forward, maybe some other victims will come forward," the woman said.
