Goshen superintendent to host coffee with parents, chance to ask questions and voice concerns

The Truth - 9/20/2017

Sept. 20--GOSHEN -- Goshen Community Schools superintendent Diane Woodworth will host a 'Coffee with the Superintendent' event on Thursday, which is an opportunity for parents to voice concerns and ask questions directly to the chief executive of the school system.

The event is held four times each year, said superintendent Diane Woodworth, and provides parents the opportunity to talk about whatever they would like to discuss.

"It's just a chance for any parents who wants to show up to come and ask questions over a cup of coffee," Woodworth said, describing the quarterly event.

Woodworth said the event is part of the school's ongoing effort to have increased avenues of communication with parents, which is something the school system has attempted to do with the use of social media and other communication channels.

"I think it's always good to have open communications," Woodworth said. "We try to be open at Goshen Community Schools in what we're doing. We try to use social media. I think (this) is just another communication channel, and I think it's important to be on the same page."

At GCS most recent school board meeting, it was announced the school system would operate on a budget nearly $3 million less in 2018 than the previous year.

Woodworth said parents might have questions regarding the school district's budget, which she is open to fielding.

"I would say we continue to look for more efficiencies," Woodworth said. "We'll continue to look for more efficiencies to live within our means and do more with less."

The event will take place from 9 am to 10 am at the Goshen Community Schools Administration Center, which is located at 613 E. Purl Street.
