Dare to Dream Ranch honored for supporting veterans and families

FOSTER – The U.S.Family Health Plan presented Foster’s Dare to Dream Ranch with the 2017 Hawes Award for Community Service on Oct. 26, in recognition of their support of veterans and military families.

The Colonel Robert E. Hawes Award for Community Service is given annually to recognize the outstanding efforts of individuals or organizations that work to support the well-being local military families. The award is named in honor of Col. Robert E. Hawes, AUS, (Ret.), the late founder of Brighton Marine Health Center, the organization designated by Congress to sponsor U.S.Family Health Plan in southern New England.

This year’s award was presented on what would have been Col. Hawes’ 105th birthday.

The award was presented to Dare to Dream founder Karen Dalton. Dalton, a health care executive and certified health coach, and the daughter of a U.S. Marine, founded Dare to Dream Ranch in 2014 to support at-risk veterans.

Dare to Dream Ranch, Inc. is an all-volunteer, nonprofit, holistic retreat for military service members, military veterans, and their families who are experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, or other emotional challenges.

Programs offered include equine therapy, horticulture therapy, nutrition education, healthy cooking, woodworking, fly tying/fishing, career coaching, and resume writing and are provided at no cost.
