Infant nutrition classes offered at Ponoka Parent Link Centre

Ponoka News - 9/3/2018

A free infant nutrition class is coming to Ponoka.

Hosted at the Ponoka Parent Link Centre, Alberta Health Services (AHS) is bringing registered dietitians to answer questions parents may have about solids and textures.

A press release from AHS explains that the free two hour workshop, "highlights why babies need to start on iron-rich foods at six months."

"…how to start introducing solid foods and why progressing to different food textures is important. Parents are encouraged to bring babies to the class, which focuses on creating a positive feeding relationship."

The class will be offered Tuesday, Sept. 11 from 1 to 3 p.m. and will give parents food preparation tips using kitchen tools already in the home.

"Parents learn how to prepare vegetables, fruit, meat and meat alternatives using a number of different tools, including hand mixers, food mills and food processors," states the release.

"The class ends with a taste test to compare store-bought baby foods and homemade baby foods for taste and texture."
