BRIEF: New Twitter account to help families who use NYC yellow school buses

The New York Daily News - 10/16/2018

Oct. 16--Late bus? No-show? Wrong destination? There's a Tweet for that.

City Education Department officials have launched a new Twitter account to communicate with families amid a rash of bus service problems at the opening of the new school year that began Sept. 5.

The new account, @nycschoolbuses, will be dedicated to updating families in real time with information about bus service.

The account will provide general updates for school closures, holidays and bad weather. It'll also post routes that are experiencing delays. And it will also serve as a point of contact for families to ask questions or share opinions.

Senior Transportation Adviser Kevin Moran said the account was created to address the service problems that impacted thousands of city families since the start of the current school year.

"As I've met with parents, communities and elected officials, I've heard loud and clear the need for more effective communication and better customer service," Moran said. "I'm excited to launch this new initiative that uses Twitter as a tool to more effectively and quickly communicate with students and families."
