Child care survey underway

Nov. 29--CLINTON -- A survey is available until January as regional child care needs continue to be considered.

The Clinton Regional Development Corp. recently launched the new survey. The CRDC, through the survey, is asking regional employees to submit information related to the cost and availability of child care in the Clinton region.

The survey will be disseminated to employees through participating employers, through links posted on social media and through e-newsletters sent out by partnering organizations, including the Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce. The personal information for all respondents will remain confidential. The CRDC will award $100 in River City Gold to one participant after the survey concludes Jan. 7. The winner will be notified by a CRDC staff member.

"The CRDC's mission is to grow the local economy," CRDC Existing Industry Manager Andy Sokolovich said in a press release. "We strive to attract skilled professionals to work and live in the Clinton region and contribute to our economic growth. Many of these workers have families who require child care. We want to understand their needs and be prepared to meet them. This survey will provide our community with the information we need to collectively improve the situation."

Sokolovich said that as of Wednesday they have received 79 responses to the survey.

The CRDC has hosted multiple presentations regarding child care options in the Clinton region. The most recent presentation last month included Iowa Women's Foundation Executive Director Dawn Oliver Wiand and Southeast Iowa Region Five Recruitment and Retention Specialist Chelsea Van Daele.

Sokolovich said he, Oliver Wiand and Van Daele agreed the best step to take was to initiate a survey. He said they wanted to get a response from the whole community and get the entire region involved rather than a small subset of people.
