Child-care center taking registrations for 2017-2018

HIBBING - Registrations are now being accepted for the 2017-2018 Kiddy Karousel nursery school program.

Kiddy Karousel is a private, nonprofit childcare that has been in operation for 46 years. The center offers a family-friendly environment that emphasizes the safety and happiness of children while encouraging creativity and discovery. There is a program for younger children on Tuesday and Thursday, and a Monday, Wednesday, Friday program for children that will be attending kindergarten the following year. The classes meet from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. While at nursery school, children will mix fun with learning through open activity, art projects, dramatic play, circle time, large muscle activities and hands-on cooking and science projects. Use of the Dr. Jean music curriculum will enable children to experience the joy of music through song and movement.

Daily programming is based on individual needs and stages of development, with emphasis on social emotional growth, and development of cognitive and motor skills. Weekly themes are planned and several field trips are scheduled throughout the year and include visits to elder care facilities, the library, Hibbing Fire Station, the post office, Mr. Ed's Farm and Paulucci Space Theatre.

Kiddy Karousel staff have participated in the Parent Aware training program designed to enhance providers in best practices and proven approaches. Child care centers that complete the required components in Parent Aware are given a star rating designed to assist parents when making child care choices. Kiddy Karousel has received a three-star rating at this time and continue training to reach the four-star level which is the highest award given.

Childcare is available before and after nursery school. Sibling care is also available for children 6 weeks through 10 years in the infant, toddler, preschool and school-age programs. Year round hours of operation are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The center is also open on most days when schools are closed.

Kiddy Karousel, an equal opportunity provider, is licensed by the State of Minnesota, and complies with all state and federal regulations. The center follows all standards set by the Minnesota Child and Adult Food Program, and offers breakfast for a minimal fee and free snacks. In accordance with federal law and the U.S. Department of Agriculture policy, Kiddy Karousel does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. Hot lunch is available with free or reduced costs for income eligible families.
