Warwick mother charged in February death of 7-month-old baby

Providence Journal - 4/3/2017

April 03--WARWICK -- The mother of a seven-month-old baby who died in February -- and whose father was charged with neglect at the time -- has also been charged in connection with the death, according to WPRI.

Mariah Ramos, 34, found her infant daughter, Willow Ramos, unresponsive in their home on Airport Road, but was not initially charged.

WPRI reported late Sunday night that Ramos now faces a charge of cruelty to or neglect of a child. She has pleaded not guilty, according to WPRI.

Willow Ramos' father, Ryan Beeley, was charged with neglect in February. He pleaded not guilty.

Warwick police told reporters in February that family members had contacted the state Department of Children, Youth and Families in August due to concerns about the parents' ability to care for the child. A DCYF spokesman said the agency determined after an investigation that the allegations were unsubstantiated.

"We can confirm previous involvement with the family where we twice investigated concerns communicated though our Child Abuse Hotline," DCYF spokesman Denis J. Riel said at the time. "Upon investigation, in both cases, we concluded that the allegations were unsubstantiated. The family was not formally involved with DCYF as a result of the unsubstantiated findings."
