Family nutrition assistant wins Community Outreach Award

Andrea Wann, family nutrition program assistant with Washington County Extension Office and Expanded Food and Nutrition Educational 4-H Program, has been named the 2017 Community Outreach Award winner for Southwest Virginia.

She was presented the award at the 2017 Family Nutrition Program Educator In-Service Awards ceremony held in West Virginia.

Wann educates adults, particularly those on limited incomes, on the fundamentals of nutrition, preparation of low cost snacks and meals, management of food resources, and supplies them with resources to be more physically active and improve eating habits.

She collaborated with over 20 community organizations and used inventive ways to reach those with low incomes from supermarket tours to gardening classes.
