Get involved: Child literacy resources

The Daily Gazette - 6/12/2017

June 11--Want to get more involved in literacy or learn more about it, check out these resources:

* Call the Library: The early literacy team run out of the library is at the early stages of its work and is interested in hearing ideas, feedback or get volunteers. Call the library at 518-388-4500 and ask about the literacy plan or for Kaela Wallman.

* Check out the Capital District Child Care Council: The website is full of information about different child care options throughout the region and how to go about choosing the best child care option for you. Also call 1-800-521-KIDS (5437) for direct assistance.

* Visit the state's Quality Stars website: This is the state's system for evaluating child care providers. Visit the website for more information about what sets different child care options apart.

* Get your kid in a pre-k program: As of last week, there were still a handful of pre-kindergarten slots open for district schools, including full-day at Hamilton and Yates.

* Birth to 8 Continuum: Read more about the broad concept at the center of the library's literacy effort. Here from the National Association for the Education of Young Children and here from the Foundation for Child Development.
