New manager on duty in Department of Child Services office serving Elkhart County

July 21--SOUTH BEND -- The Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) has appointed Erin Shidler manager of Region 3.

In this role she will provide broad oversight and supervision for the Region 3 area, which includes Elkhart, Kosciusko, Marshall and St. Joseph counties. Also, she will serve as a field representative to the DCS' central office in Indianapolis and communicate local office needs. Other duties include supervising the director of the Region 3 county offices while also developing and administering budgets.

"Erin brings years of child welfare field experience to the position," said Jane Bisbee, DCS' deputy director of Field Operations. "We are pleased to have her in this new role."

Shidler is a native Hoosier, born and raised in Jay County.

Shidler began her DCS career in 2003 as a Family Case Manager (FCM) in Jay County. In 2006, she transferred to Noble County as an FCM, and shortly after was promoted to FCM Supervisor in Kosciusko County. In 2012, she was again promoted to Local Office Director of Kosciusko County and was in that position until her appointment to Regional Manager.

"There are so many great things going on in Region 3 right now, I want to find out how I can best get involved and help keep things going," said Shidler. "I want to continue to follow the principles of being a servant leader, and look forward to the opportunity to partner with the Region 3 staff in bettering the lives of children and families that we serve."

Shidler is a 2000 graduate from Ball State with a bachelor of science degree in sociology and geography with an emphasis on meteorology. In 2003, she earned her Master of Arts in sociology from Ball State.

She began her new duties July 17.

The Region 3 office is based out of the DCS St. Joseph County office, located at 300 North Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in South Bend.
